Fathi Bashe is a youth leader and a social activist energetically advocating for Sustainable Development Goals, with a particular focus on women’s rights, gender equality, climate change and peace & security. Fathi is an SDGs expert based in the Horn of Africa and has an extensive experience in collaborating with multiple local authorities and international organizations; including, PNUD DJIBOUTI , UNDP Somalia, United Nations Resident Office in Djibouti, Djibouti Ministry of Finance and Somaliland Ministry of Planning. Fathi firmly believes in the United Nations Principles and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and emphasizes on the importance of collective roles and responsibilities to achieve the SDGs. With that in mind, Fathi founded a self-titled initiative called Fathi Initiative and is also a founding member, the Horn of Africa SDGs Network.
The initiative is an independent, non-governmental organization with the purpose of bringing solutions and awareness to the SDGs. The initiative was created as a way of raising awareness of the SDGs among Somalis in the Horn of Africa. The initiative’s goals is to generate conversation and active dialogue about goals that have direct effect on the region, specifically, goal 13 and goal 5. The initiative’s vison is to realize the fulfilment of Sustainable Development Goals at country and regional level. The initiative’s mission is to mobilize the regional and national efforts to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs as whole through an inclusive partnership with all stakeholders in the region. The main focus of the initiative is to localize the aspirations of the SDGs within the regional governments, civil society organizations, youth led organizations and the general public.
